New Rule for the New EconomySpeaking on what lies ahead for the “Internet of Things” (IoT) over the next 10 years or so, one semiconductor specialist is quoted in the January 2 edition of the San Jose Mercury News “Business” page as saying: “This will be potentially the biggest business opportunity in the history of people. We are changing the Earth.” (emphasis added)

Indeed, “Every facet of society is expected to be transformed by the Internet of Things,” writes Steve Johnson in this article. It’s reminiscent of what the founder of WIRED magazine, Kevin Kelly, wrote in his book, NEW RULES FOR THE NEW ECONOMY, in 1998: “There are 10 trillion objects manufactured in the world each year and the day will come when each one of them will carry a flake of silicon. Soon, all manufactured objects, from sneakers to drill presses to lamp shades to cans of soda,  will contain a tiny sliver of embedded thought.”
